the virtue of the second amendment

The Second Amendment to the constitution of these United States says "A well regulated Militia being necessary to the security of a free
State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed."

What does this mean?

It means that any person, white, black, Chinese, German, man or woman, gay or straight, married or single, has the right to protect themselves by owning and carrying firearms.
People fear guns, why? When is the last time you have seen an inanimate object jump off of a table and kill someone? Cars kill more people in the United States in a year than firearms will in five years, yet not one person fears a non moving car. Most people for that matter do not fear a moving car being operated safely by a licensed driver. However many people do have an issue with a licensed permitted individual carrying a firearm on their side or under their arm. Let me tell you a little bit about firearms that you may not know. The vast majority of all firearms manufactured, sold, and traded today are completely safe even when dropped or struck by a blunt object. All firearms made today have some kind of safety device on them, whether it be a internal safety such as a action block, or an external safety that can be manipulated by ones thumb or finger. Now a days, many weapons even have safety devices built into the triggers. Another common fear people have is the fear that someone with a gun openly carried in a holster could be dangerous. How? 99.999999% of criminals that carry illegal guns hide them in such a manner as to not be detected by LEO's (law enforcement officers). Also most bad guys will not wear a holster. I have been carrying a weapon for over a year now, and not once has my gun fired itself. It has not killed anyone or anything. So if guns kill people, mine must be defective. The argument can be made that guns are bad. Well, that is not the case, again a object cannot in and of itself be bad or good. The people using these guns illegally are bad.
Many times people ask me, well permit or no permit, how do I know you are not a felon or a criminal. In every state, it is illegal for a felon or someone with a violent criminal record to even touch a firearm. Guns are a tool, that is all. Why ban guns from being sold to legal citizens of the United States? The only people who will have guns then, will be criminals who disregard the law anyway.

week

I forgot about this weeks blog, my bad

A police officer in New Jersey was suspended because he fell asleep behind the wheel of his patrol car.  The department refused to comment to local media however they did say that alchohol was not a factor.  The officer has no history of misconduct and may be drug tested as a precaution.

I feel that this is the epitome of the reason people dislike law enforcement.  He made his department look bad, and he made law enforcement nation wide look horrible.  The sterotypical Barney Fife with a box of donuts and a cup of coffee makes this guy look bad.  He should be suspended without pay.

WEEK 13 POST

A soldier in Iraq attacked and killed 5 people in his own unit yesturday.  He went into the medical tent for treatment, was denied for undisclosed reasons and disarmed.  He returned with another weapon demanding treatment.  When he was refused he opened fire and killed 5 people.

Arent there reasons these places have guards?  I mean really, your in Iraq people, get a clue.  Fragging, or intentional friendly fire has not happened in warfare since Vietnam in a widespread manner.  This seems to be the first case of fragging seen in the Iraq War and im surprised it took this long for it to occur.  We need to watch our men and women in the service more carefully because they are prone to stress related snapping.  He could have killed more people and should not be held accountable due to PTSD

week 12 blog makeup

Peyton Manning and his wife attended a party to raise money for the Peyton Manning Childrens Hospital over the weekend.  The goal was to raise enough money to begin reserach into many of the commen illnesses that afflict our children.  Sponsers were allowed to traverse the locker room, meet some of the Colts football players, and even meet US senators Lugar and Bayh

I think that it is great that football players like Peyton Manning help other people instead of just allowing themselves to become richer.  If he wants to use his money and fame to help other people, then more power to him.  Thank God for people like Peyton Manning

week 11 makeup

Barack Obama is set to make the commencement speech at Notre Dame's graduation.  This is causing controversy because Notre Dame is a catholic school and Obama is supporting pro-abortionist measures in order to allow women the freedom to choose.  He is also recieving an honourary degree from the university.  Many people are protesting this action and some students are saying that they will skip graduation if he attends.

I feel the apeople are making much ado about nothing.  So what if Barack Obama goes aganst the Catholic Churches viewpoints?  He is trying to do the best job he can running our country and he is going to make mistakes.  Shouldnt the church be forgiving and understanding instead of condemming Obama's actions as president.  I say let the man speak, he still loves God and he is still our brother, no matter what his actions say

week 10 blog make up

The city of Franklin passed a smoking ban that does not allow any exemptions for private clubs, bars, or anyother type of buisness.  Essentially this wipes out the comsumption of all smoked tobacco in public venues.  The city says that it is beneficial for the health of the public at large but critics say it is just another way to tie down smokers and it discriminates.

I feel that it should be up to the owner of a resturant or establishment to decide if they allow smokeing or do not allow smoking.  This ban does discriminate aganst those who choose to indulge in a cigar after dinner, the after lunch cigerette, or the beer and cigerettes that outline the hard working line of blue coller employees nationwide.  Therefore i do not belive the city has the right to make a decision that people should make for themselves.

MAY 8 2009

The swine flu cometh.  There is an epidemic gripping the nation and in face the world that could be deadly for hundreds of people.  It began in Mexico during the time spring break was occuring all over the United States and began with 1 case.  It bloomed into over 600 worldwide in little more than a few weeks.  It is a rare form of the flu virus that has mutated from only being able to infect pigs to being able to infect humans.

The swine flu is being blown out of proportion by the  media.  People are afraid because the media reports only the news of the cases that are reported and the amount of death caused by the virus.  However the media does not tell the fact that the chance of dying in a civilized nation are slim to none.  The same thing happened with the SARS epidemic and the bird flu.  People heard of a new virus they never knew about and panicked.  This is the fault of the media, not a virus.
